Aim
The signal aim of the department is to imbue the students with the spirit of inquiry. Students of social science (of which Journalism and Mass Communication in an inseparable branch) should question the established norms of the day and even challenge them if necessary. A journalist must aim at cleansing the society which is otherwise afflicted with a plethora of maladies. A razor sharp intellect, unimpeachable integrity, the boldness to take on the system head on, and finally an unadulterated love for one's country -in short, these are the attibutes of a good journalist who is committed to the cause of public service journalism. Here to, in our department we train our students to cultivate the values and qualities mentioned above, so that in future they can do justice to public service journalism in this country.
Scope
After obtaining a Bachelor's Degree the students can go for the Master's programme at various universities. Or else they can pursue careers in the print as well as the electronic media. With the sky virtually having opened up as far as television journalism is concerned, the sky is the limit for the wannabe TV reporter.
Radio is another area that can be explored - particularly in the wake of the kind of revolution that has been brought about by the FM channels.
In a nutshell, there is plenty of opportunities. What one needs is the perfect sense of timing to grab.
