Aim
Literature reflects the complicated social relationship between men and nature. This is very much true in the case of Bengali Literature with its rich tradition of cultural development and aesthetic refinement. Bengali literature has always contributed to the enrichment of the mind and the soul. The Bengali language is a brilliant medium of communication between the Bengali people and it has led to the building up of an interaction between the different branches of literature, as also between other languages. The Department of Bengali literature also deals with linguistics, history of literature, poetics and the art of rhetoric and prosody.
Scope
i) After completing graduation in Bengali Honours, students can take admission in M.A. in different universities. They can even do Masters in Linguistics, Folklore and Journalism.
ii) The professional world simply offers unlimited opportunities to a Bengali Hons. graduate. Journalism has always been the forte of an Hons. graduate in Bengali. Innumerable instances can be cited where Hons. graduates have made it real big in vernacular journalism. Teaching as a profession has always been close to a Bengali Hons. graduate's heart. Area like advertising offer lucrative opportunities to those who have the timber in them to sustain the pressure of working in the advertising world. Proofreading too has its share of scope. Finally, one can definitely take the civil services examinations.
iii) For the ones with the proclivities for the performing arts, films and stage-acting open up flodgates, as far opportunities are concerned.
